NOTES FROM THE MUSIC DIRECTOR - by Sylvia Miskoe

Last month I introduced Jenny Nettles in a 24-bar format with an A, a B and a
C. I have several reference books that I use when deciding on what version of a
tune to use. Subsequently, I have found several other versions, equally
old. Here is one of the versions that is often played.

The reel is Delgaty Castle. It is by Robert Macintosh, an 18th century
fiddler/composer. It's interesting in that it has a 32-bar major part and then
a 32-bar minor variation. The castle, sometimes spelled Dalgety, is 16th
century. It's located in north Aberdeenshire.

There are two strathspeys that I learned from Etienne Ozorak, an accomplished
Scottish accordionist. We'll Aye be Fond o' Ingram is by Skinner and Miss Annie
Robertson is by Macintosh. The third strathspey, Bobby Harvey, is another Angus
Fitchet tune. It is often found in country dance sets.

A few weeks ago I heard Brian Conroy, a fine Irish-American fiddler, in
concert. One of the jigs was very familiar but I couldn't quite place it until
Brian introduced it as a tune he'd learned from another fiddler. It has a
funny name about a bridge and I think it's Canadian. The tune: Teviot Brig, an
old traditional Scottish jig. Good tunes travel.

SCOTLAND WITH SRS
- By Marianne Taylor

The SRS is hoping to make its second tour of Scotland in June of 2006. Would
you be interested in going along? We'll play with and for Scots, see some
wonderful sights and enjoy some lively company We hope to hold our numbers down
to no more than 30, for convenience in travel and accommodation.

Please return the enclosed card (to the SRS address on Little Pond Road) if you
think you might be interested in going with us. If several of the dates
mentioned are possible for you, rank them 1-3, so we can decide what is best
for the most We figure at this point that the cost should be no more than
$2,200. per person for ten days, including airfare. As we continue to
investigate the various choices of itinerary, etc., we will keep you informed
of progress. This is really a great way of having fun with Scottish music

SRSNH SHIRTS
- By Bruce Cobb

There are still a fair number of SRS shirts left. As of 4/28/05 there are 25
White Polo Shirts (18 with Green Emblem, 7 with Purple) - all Large, and 21
T-Shirts (3 Purple, and 18 Green) - all Large except for 2 of the Green, which
are X-Large. Prices are still $12 for the Polos and $10 for the T's. It's a
pretty safe bet that you won't see prices like these again.

I will be bringing some to the next two Gatherings, in May and June, but it is
a good idea to let me know beforehand of your color preference, style, and how
many. Contact Bruce Cobb at cobglas at juno.com or (603) 435-6026.
