The 2009 Gala Scottish Concert

The SRSNH will hold its twenty-first Gala on the afternoon of November 29, 2009, at 2:30. The guest performer is Jacqueline Schwab, pianist. Well known for her work on Ken Burns’ documentaries, Jacqueline has recorded and performed with many traditional musicians, including Scottish fiddlers Alasdair Fraser and Laura Risk, and Scottish singer Jean Redpath.  Ken Burns says: “Jacqueline Schwab brings more feeling and intensity to music than anyone I know. Her playing is insistent, physical, heartfelt and … unusually moving.”

The award-winning students from the Calder School of Highland Dance return to the Concord City Audi stage to perform a variety of Scottish dances. The piper Derek Davidson will join them this year. The show will also feature the SRSNH ensemble, known for its big Scottish sound and exuberant playing.  The program will include a wonderful variety of traditional Scottish music forms, including marches, airs, jigs, reels, and strathspeys, the music with the characteristic Scottish snap.
