Meet the Candidates

Every year at our May meeting the NH Scottish Music Club elects three members to serve on our board of directors for two-year terms. This year we will be voting for President, Vice President, and Member-at-Large. As May approaches, keep an eye out for the ballot which should arrive in your email inbox.

President: Anne Baier

If elected in May I will be starting my 3rd term as president.

Early in my tenure I instituted monthly board meetings, via Zoom. It’s necessary for the board to meet regularly to assure the health of the organization.

I am pleased to have been part of the group of 5 that developed a new website. . I also worked to see through the name change, that the board voted on, from Strathspey and Reel Society of NH, to NH Scottish Music Club. The new name has been registered with the NH Department of State. I believe these efforts have helped bring in 13 new members, including some younger ones.

I also submitted and received a grant to fund our scholarships. I plan to apply for another grant, to help offset some of our expenses hosting workshops, as well as grants to support our scholarship programs.

My primary goal in the next two years is for the organization to attract younger members to carry on the work that has been done over the past 36 years.

Vice President: Gordon Peery

This past year I have come to appreciate , through the many fine workshops SMC has held, the breadth of approaches to both the repertoire and the playing techniques. That has informed how I approach leading the orchestra, with the goal of having even more fun as we all become better musicians.

I have also taken great satisfaction in serving on the board with a team that knows how to share the workload (including ongoing improvements to the website) while cultivating a functional management structure.

Member-At-Large: Art Hull

I live in Bordentown, New Jersey, and have served on the Board as Member-at-Large for the past two years. My wife Mary and I are fiddle players, and have been active with the group for more than ten years, first with the SRSNH and now with the NHSMC. We spend summers at our small cabin on Lake Winnisquam in Belmont, NH. While in New Hampshire I have been able to attend several board meetings and gatherings in person.

In 2022 I was involved with the design of our new website and currently maintain the “Camps, Festivals & Workshops” web section, under Fun Stuff. If elected I would be happy to serve another term as a Member-at-Large.
